Tyler Perry is no Alex Cross

I know the movie hasn’t come out yet (Oct. 19th) but I just had to say it.  Tyler Perry isn’t Alex Cross.  Can’t be.  Why?  Glad you asked.

You know how an actor will play a role for so long that they can never be associated with any other character.  Think Jaleel White as Urkel or Christopher Reeves as Superman.  To me, Tyler Perry is Madea.  Ma to the damn D, E, A.  I’ve seen him play that character so much that even in his more serious roles (Good Deeds, The Family that Preys, etc.) I can’t get past it.  Maybe it’s a limitation on my part.

I’m sure Tyler probably does a decent job in this movie.  He is a hard-working individual that respects the craft.  But who made the casting decision?  You can’t follow Morgan “Academy Award winner” Freeman with someone who wears women dresses for laughs.

I remember reading something about Idris Elba being considered.  I can see that.  Hubby and I were discussing various actors and he mentioned Anthony Mackie.  Now that I can clearly see.

Alex Cross maybe?

I just watched the trailer again and Cicely Tyson is in the movie.  Can’t be all bad, I guess.  Still, I’ll take a wait and see approach to this film.

Ok Michelle I just read this. In why did I get married 1 and 2 I was talking solely about the character he played not the whole movie. I really didn’t like how why I get married too turned out but I still love how Tyler portrayed his character.

Ok Michelle this will be one time I will disagree with you. Believe it or not Tyler almost turn down the role for the very reason you stated. Who can follow Morgan Freeman? Well I think he can. Over the years I watch the sincerity in Tyler’s acting no matter what role he played. I think because Morgan Freeman is a tough act to follow he will work harder to make it his own. I love Tyler for showing a side of men rarely shown in a male character as a husband. Why did I get married one and two. Well that’s my little take on it.

  3. whole-heartily agree! I won’t be watching it, although I will give him a pound for trying to “stretch” his personae. besides, I’m still upset Tyler got his hands on “for colored girls…” another movie I refuse to watch … yeah, I’m a snob – lol!

    • I felt that way about “For Colored Girls” but broke down and watched it with my sister. He didn’t ruin it. I was surprised that I liked it. He did go a little extra and put some “stank” on it but it was bearable. Lol
