A Heritage of Hate

Nine people lost their lives in a senseless massacre by a self proclaimed racist.  He did it under the banner of the Confederate Flag.  The flag that flies on South Carolina State House grounds.  And now the chorus becomes, “Take it down. Take it down.”

That flag has flown on the State House grounds since 1962 (before I was born).  An act of rebellion against the Civil Rights Movement.  A compromise moved the flag to its current location.  Maybe a tragedy will get it put in a museum where it belongs.

But some people argue that the Confederate Flag has been co-opted by hate groups.  They say the flag symbolizes “heritage” and “state rights”.  I say those people don’t know history or refuse to see the truth.  The Civil War was fought because the Southern States wanted to continue their way of life.  The life of master and slave.  White supremacy over the Negro.  A heritage of hate.

Why is this still an issue in 2015?  If you truly believe the Confederate Flag is something to be proudly displayed then do it at your house.  Put it on your car and wear it on your shirt.  Let the world see you for what you are.  But don’t fly it on State  House grounds.  Don’t flaunt the symbol of oppression at the place that should unite ALL people of the State.

This is getting embarrassing. South Carolina was the first state to secede.  Do we have to be the last state to concede?

Who Really Won Super Bowl XLIX?

I watched the Super Bowl last night like a majority of Americans for one reason.  The commercials.  (Sidenote:  Who throws the ball in the red zone when you have BeastMode on your team?  Worst play call ever!)  Anyway, here are my three favorites:

Liam Neeson’s Clash of Clans

You beat Liam in a game and he will find you.

#Like A Girl – Always

As a mother of two girls this one speaks to me.

Dove Men Care

I love seeing Dads with their kids.

Which one was your favorite?  (P.S.  I can’t believe the Seahawks threw the ball!)
